On the Road Again

Hi! My name is Sr. M. Consolata and I'm the new (well, not so new, it's been two months now) Vocation Director. Did you know that part of what I get to do is to travel? Yes, right now I'm in Kansas! Last month I was in Ohio. This past weekend, Louisiana came to visit me in Alton, Illinois. What a blessing to meet young women from around the country!

As time goes on I look forward to sharing more with you and hearing from you too! For now, you can check out my hello to the students at St. James Academy in Lenexa, KS. Disclaimer: Movie was made on the run on K-7. Enjoy!

Hello!

How do I follow the order of the day while traveling? If I am traveling to places where our Sisters live, then I join them in prayer and the order of the day as much as possible. I was able to do this while I was in Kansas because I joined the Sisters for their school day at St. James Academy and at Benedictine College. If I am traveling to other places, I still try to follow the order of our day as much as I can with the schedule of the apostolate. Flexibility is key!

To answer the second question: Yes, I do go to other schools and talk to girls. The location depends on where I am invited to go and if it fits into my schedule. If you would like me to come to your school, please call or email and I can see if I am available!

When the sisters attend college, are there convents nearby in which they live or are there other living arrangements? Also, I don't know if you can answer this question. When you live in the convent (such as in Alton) does each sister have her own cell or do sisters room together? Do you refer to it as a cell or room?

In most of the situations where our Sisters attend university, they live in a convent nearby. In Steubenville, we have a house of studies where our Sisters live. In Atchison, at Benedictine, the Sisters live in school housing but are attached to the local convent in the area. In other situations, our Sisters commute from a local convent. If it is absolutely necessary, we live in the dorm, but that is the exception.

In our community each Sister has her own room, and we call them bedrooms. They are places where we can go to be alone, to be silent and to pray.

Thank you so much for sharing the "human" side of being a sister and the different aspects of community life. There is definitely never time for boredom in religious life! Sister M. Clementia once shared how you each celebrate your name day in the convent which was very interesting. Are there any traditions as a community at CHRISTmas?

Today, on the Feast of the Birth of Mary, our new postulants entered the postulancy of our American Province of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George! We thank God for the gift of these vocations. Seeking like Mary Magdalene

Blessed Easter! May the joy of our Risen Lord fill your heart with His joy and peace!          Mary Magdalene and her story of encounter with the Risen Lord has often been a favorite meditation of mine.
